The Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill developed a community service program that reflects its mission of service to the community. The committee developed a series of activities focusing in four main areas, Women's Health, Children's Health, The Environment, and Underprivileged Youth. The Atlanta Chapter also supports the National United We Serve Campaign by supplying coffee to veterans at the VA Hospital, and sponsoring a toy drive at Ft. McPherson for the children of military families during the 2010 Holiday Season. By focusing our efforts in these areas, the Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill is positioned to positively impact, and improve the lives of those we serve in the Metro Atlanta community.
Breast Cancer Walk/ Georgia Ovarian Cancer Walk
Over twenty-five mothers committed themselves to seeking pledges and walking in the Breast Cancer Walk in September of 2010. Over $1000.00 was donated to the American Cancer Society from our chapter. In October of 2010 five mothers walked in the GOCA walk and raised over $665.00 for Ovarian Cancer.
Sickle Cell Walk
The Sickle Cell Walk is held annually in April at Welcome All Park in College Park Georgia. Grade groups have utilized this as a group activity supporting this community service event. Jack and Jillers learn the importance of sponsorship by seeking pledges and participating in this activity.
Trees Atlanta was founded in 1985 by Central Atlanta Progress, the Junior League of Atlanta, Inc., and the Atlanta Parks Commissioner. Trees Atlanta has been a prime force in addressing Atlanta's tree loss, creating increased green space, and conserving the city's trees. The Atlanta Chapter participated in two of the tree plantings in the Sylvan Hills and Capitol View neighborhoods.
The Atlanta Chapter Jack partnered with Cool Girls and helped provide Christmas gifts ($200) to middle school girls who participated in their afterschool program.
